Stour Valley Lions: Supporting Local Good Causes

Helping people and organisations across the Stour Valley through practical support, fundraising and community action.

Even in relatively affluent areas, many worthwhile causes remain hidden. Often, the people who need help most are the least likely to ask for it. Stour Valley Lions exists to identify those needs and offer support where it can make a real difference.

How we help

We support people and organisations in need through practical help, volunteer time and financial assistance. Our fundraising events include race nights, bingo nights, film nights and raffles, with money raised distributed to good causes in our local community.

Lions’ Den funding

Each year, we hold a Lions’ Den event to assess funding requests fairly. Local good causes can bid for support, and we ask only that applications show a clear civic, youth or welfare benefit.

In 2026, we awarded £7,600 to 15 organisations across the Stour Valley area.

Other community projects

• Recycle for Sight: We collect unused or unwanted glasses, which are sent to countries including Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka, Ghana, Nigeria and Nepal.
• Message in a Bottle: We support a scheme that gives emergency responders quick access to important personal and medical information when someone needs help.
• Education in Tanzania: We support a charity that raises funds to advance children’s education in Tanzania.
